Elizabeth K. “Lizzie” Love, 75, of Wetmore, Kansas, died August 11, 1973 at the Holton hospital. She had been ill for several days with a stroke.
Lizzie was born July 6, 1898 on a farm southwest of Wetmore, the daughter of Claus Christian “C.C.” and Katherina E. Jenne Nissen. She spent most of her life around Wetmore. She attended a country school and after her school she helped on the family farm.
She was united in marriage to Charles J. Love on February 9, 1923 in Topeka; he preceded her in death on April 21, 1970.
Until her retirement she was employed at the Whiteway Nursing Home in Wetmore. She was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service (WSCS) and the Wetmore American Legion. She loved to cook, garden and raise flowers, especially African violets. Her special pleasure was having her grandchildren come and stay with her.
She is survived by two sons, George Love of Wetmore and Harold J. “Joe” Love of Seneca; a daughter, Blanche (Jim) Eisenbarth of Wetmore; a brother, C.F. “Fritz” Nissen of Wetmore; six grandchildren, Chuck and Eddie Eisenbarth of Topeka, and Jill, Bill, Janet, and Gary Love, all of Seneca; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William, J.G. and Homer Nissen, and one step-brother Adolph.
The funeral service was held at 10:30 AM Monday, August 13, in Holton, with Rev. Guy Hartman officiating. Vocals were provided by Eula Oxandale singing “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Beyond the Sunset,” with accompaniment by Robert Brown. Flower ladies were Edith Kongs and Callie Achten Jr.
Burial was in Wetmore Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Kongs, Jack Bryant, Ed Blocker, Bill Christian, Bob Phrang and Max Phrang.
