Elizabeth M. Larkin, 96, of Seneca, KS, died Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Country Place Living in Seneca.
Elizabeth was born on April 11, 1915 to Albert J. and Elizabeth Waller Lierz on a farm east of Seneca. She attended the Ford School and Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School in Seneca. After school she helped on the family farm and she helped her sister with her children and she did housekeeping for Dr. Thompson.
On April 6, 1937 she married Francis L. Larkin at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The couple lived and farmed east of Baileyville until they retired and moved to Seneca in 1978. They celebrated 58 years of marriage; Francis preceded her in death on December 15, 1995.
Elizabeth was a homemaker, a cook at Crestview Manor nursing home in Seneca, and a baker for Ray’s IGA grocery store in Seneca.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society in Seneca; and a former member of Sacred Heart’s Catholic Church in Baileyville. She belonged to several bridge clubs and a farm neighborhood group called County Club. She loved her family, cooking and playing bridge and bingo.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father Albert on September 29, 1942; her mother Elizabeth on April 2, 1972; four sons, Bruce Albert Larkin on September 24, 1945, James Michael Larkin on December 12, 1959, Russell A. Larkin on February 29, 2000 and Ronald O. Larkin on December 21, 2002; 12 siblings, Magdalene Hasenkamp on July 15, 1980, Lawrence Lierz on September 24, 1978, Stella Mergenmeier on February 5, 1996, Clarence Lierz on October 21, 1975, Albert Lierz, Jr. on June 6, 1942, Walter Lierz on November 13, 1985, Charles Lierz on December 16, 1995, Joseph Lierz on December 18, 1971, Eldora Knox on August 30, 1993, Rosanna Lierz on July 29, 1917, Laura Wietharn on November 29, 1998 and Ralph Lierz on October 29, 1999.
She is survived by a son, Bruce Larkin of Baileyville; a daughter, Mary Heiman of Olathe, KS; a sister Johanna Hylton of Seneca; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Wednesday, August 24, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Thursday, August 25, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Baileyville.
Memorials may be given in Elizabeth’s memory for Sacred Heart Cemetery, and sent in care of the family.
