Eva I. Krotzinger, 84, of Seneca, Kansas, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

She was born on April 9, 1928 in Seneca, the daughter of John Frederick and Ruby E. Sypherd Luginbill. She graduated from Seneca Public High School in 1946. As a young girl she worked for a family for 5 cents a day plus half a gallon of skim milk. After high school graduation she went to work for Judge Slocum.

On June 8, 1947 Eva married Jacob C. Krotzinger, whom she met when both were attending the wedding of a friend. The couple started the first garbage collection route in Seneca. In 1970, when Eva’s children were grown, she started a thriving business out of her home, selling wedding invitations, supplies and gifts, and continued to do so until 1995.

Eva was a generous and caring individual who enjoyed meeting and helping people. She and her husband delivered cookie and candy plates to home-bound people during the holidays, amounting to more than 300 plates in their final year of this community service.

Eva was a member of the United Church of Christ, VFW Auxiliary, Legion Auxiliary and the Eastern Star, all in Seneca. She loved to play cards and to bake for her family. She enjoyed fishing, and giving to her community whenever she had a chance. Family was very important to Eva and she relished time spent with family.

She is survived by her son James and his wife Cindy of Seneca; three daughters, Marcia Krotzinger of Seneca, Carol Niehues of Sabetha, and Diane and her husband Max Hermesch of Sabetha; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Eva considered her longtime neighbors her extended family, especially Don and Mary Doris Strathman and their children.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jacob on April 17, 1994; her sons, Lyle on August 31, 1962 and Charles R. “Charlie” on August 18, 2008; her son-in-law Mike Niehues on July 9, 2007; brothers, William, Harold, Fritz, George, Allen and Lyle Luginbill; and sisters, Lily Claas and Rose Zella Boeding.

Funeral service will be held at 10 AM Monday, July 23, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, with a visitation from 6 to 7 PM on Sunday, July 22, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Seneca City Cemetery.

A memorial beneficiary will be designated later.
