Garry J. Wichman

Garry John Wichman, 66, of Overland Park, Kansas died April 30, 2014, in Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, Kansas.
Garry was born in Seneca, on December 14, 1947, to Henry and Ethel Tangeman Wichman. Garry attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic school in 1965. After school Garry helped his father on the family farm until he entered the United States Army on November 3, 1967; he was discharged on April 23, 1973. While in service he was assigned to CO A 1st BN School Bde USA OC&S.
After his service to his country Garry, went to Kansas State University for two years then transferred to Emporia University, graduating with a bachelor degree in business. After college he moved to Missouri and went to work for Andy Kline Pontiac. After his brother Gene died, he moved back to help his father farm for a year; and then he moved back to Overland Park, Kansas, working for a body shop.
Garry retired in 2000, he had many hobbies: his motorcycle, gardening, walking his dog, yard maintenance, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed his family and friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry on April 21, 1987 and Ethel on October 31, 1983; and a brother, Eugene Wichman on September 8, 1983.
He survived by two sons, Nathan (Lindsey) Wichman of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Dustin Wichman of Overland Park, Kansas; one brother Lynn Wichman of Seneca; three sisters, Elaine Rottinghaus of Lyons, Colorado, Lois Fladie of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Ruth (John) Moon of De Sota, Kansas.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7th from 5-7 PM at Porter’s Funeral Home in Lenexa, Kansas. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 8th at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in St. Benedict, with military honors.
Memorials are to be determined at a later date.
