Gary F. Haug

Gary F. Haug of Seneca, Kansas passed in peace at the age of 71, surrounded by his family, on April 24, 2021 at the Life Care Center of Seneca, where he had been a resident for several years.
Gary was born on January 16, 1950, in Axtell, Kansas to Urban and Darlene Strathman Haug. Gary grew up in the Corning community before leaving to attend a high school seminary. He transferred to the Savior of the World Seminary in Bonner Springs, Kansas, and graduated in 1968. He graduated from St. Thomas Seminary in t Denver, Colorado in 1972. He attended their graduate theology school until 1974; when he left to establish the Ministry to the Handicapped for the Archdiocese of Denver.
He married Mary Wagner on August 7, 1976 in Denver, Colorado; the couple moved to Seneca in 1982. Gary worked for the Mid-America Creamery in Sabetha, before becoming an insurance agent. Gary began his employment in 1986, for the Vermillion Valley Insurance Agency and the Vermillion State Bank. He retired as Vice-President of the Bank in 2013.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Gary continued his ministry in his daily life through volunteering, as a RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) teacher, a Cub Scout leader, a hospice volunteer, a Lay Minister/Lector, a Communion Distributor for sick & homebound, serving on the Parish Council and School Council, a Bingo caller and as a Baseball coach. He was also a member of the Sons of American Legion and the Knights of Columbus and past member of the Seneca Library Board and Nemaha County Home Health & Hospice Board. Gary also belonged to the Kansas Bankers Association, serving one year as Key Banker. He treasured his family and community involvement. Gary and Mary founded the Seneca Coffee house Social; a religious social event for adults with developmental disabilities.
Gary was preceded in death by an infant brother, Joey; his parents; a nephew, Jason Adams; and a great-nephew, Damon Quigley.
Gary leaves behind his wife, Mary, of 44 years; his children, Tom (Amanda) Haug of Seneca, Brian (Amber) Haug of Ellis; Danny (Jen) Haug of Tonganoxie and Pam (Nathan) Kramer of Seneca; his sister, Judy (Roger) Adams of Corning; and ten grandchildren.
A rosary will be prayed for Gary on Monday, April 26th at 2PM at Lauer Funeral Home; and a Celebration of Life Visitation will be held Monday evening, at 7PM at Lauer Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 27th at 10 AM at Sts. Peter & Paul Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be left to, Heifer International, Gary’s favorite charity or to the donor’s charity of choice; sent in care of the family.

Gary was always one of my favorite first cousins. He will be missed very much by all this friends and family. He was a wonderful man who made this world a better place for having been here
What an incredible life Gary lived!!! SO active and a perfect partner for you, Mary!!!! Glad I knew Gary, even though we haven’t seen each other in years. We had a lot of fun together as newlyweds, didn’t we???!!!!! Sending my love, prayers, and condolences to the WHOLE family.
