John A. Cardwell, 95, of Seneca, Kansas, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, at Crestview Nursing and Residential Living.
John was born on August 28, 1929, in Scandia, Kansas, to Charley and Minnie Wells Cardwell. He grew up in Scandia, where he attended school and graduated from high school in 1947. John later married the love of his life, Neva Trecek, on January 20, 1949, at Ammana Lutheran Church in Scandia, Kansas. Together, they shared a beautiful, lifelong partnership of 70 years, filled with love, laughter, and devotion.
Before beginning his successful career in the insurance business, John worked at the Manor Baking Company for 10 years. His dedication and hard work led him to a fulfilling career as an agent and manager for both Metropolitan Life Insurance and Farm Bureau Insurance, where he worked for 24 years. John and Neva’s professional journey took them from Topeka to Wichita before settling in Seneca on August 15, 1969, when John took over the Farm Bureau Insurance office in town.
In retirement, John and Neva spent over 30 winters in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, where they enjoyed the warm sunshine and, more importantly, the company of family and friends. John’s love for golf and traveling were key aspects of his life, and he cherished spending time with Neva, especially visiting their grandkids whenever possible. John was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Topeka and served as a board member of the Nemaha Valley Hospital in Seneca. His commitment to his family and faith was evident in all that he did.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife Neva on January 10, 2020, his daughter Ardith Conroy on December 17, 2007, as well as his parents, Charley and Minnie Cardwell.
He is survived by his sons, Rick (Diane) Cardwell of Fort Collins, Colorado and Terry (Sherry) Cardwell of Seneca, Kansas; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy in his life.
