John Victor Mulryan

John Victor Mulryan, 80, of Seneca, Kansas, died unexpectedly on May 25, 2022, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
John was born on December 8, 1941 to Dennis Francis and Mary E. Lierz Mulryan in Axtell, Kansas. He attended school in Baileyville and graduated in 1959. He worked for area farmers and relatives before enlisting in the National Reserve, on July 30, 1960. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and was discharged on December 29, 1965. After his service to his country, he was employed by the Herkimer Kansas COOP.
On October 12, 1964; he married Diane A. Rethman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict. The couple celebrated 55 years of marriage; and were the Nemaha/Marshall County Catholic Marriage Prep Coordinators for 32 years. John was employed by KPL from 1967 to 2007. He drove a school bus part-time and worked part-time as a janitor for NVCH and Sts. Peter & Paul Church.
He was member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, St. Joseph’s Society, the Knights of Columbus Council 1769 and the Communion Coordinator for Rest Home and Shut-Ins from 1977-2020. John enjoyed puzzles, gardening and bowling. In his spare time, he researched his ancestry and played cards.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diane on February 5, 2020; his daughter, Mary Alice Mulryan on October 23, 1973; a sister, Elsie Mulryan on January 28, 1941.
He is survived by two sons, Robert (Natalie) Mulryan of Eudora, Kansas and Michael (Shara) Mulryan of Haysville, Kansas; sisters, Mary Lou Koelzer of Baileyville, Janice Gudenkauf of Seneca and Barbara Reinhard of Topeka; brothers Richard and Francis Mulryan both of Topeka, Patrick Mulryan of Overbrook and Gerald Mulryan of Dwight; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
A rosary will be prayed Friday evening, May 27, 2022 at 7 PM at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10AM on Saturday morning, May 28, 2022 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be left in John’s memory to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, sent in care of the family.
