Lawrence M. “June” Eisenbarth, Jr., 80, Seneca, KS, died Saturday, December 25, 2004, at the Veterans Hospital in Topeka.
He was born June 15, 1924, on a farm south of Kelly, KS, the son of Lawrence M. Sr., and Viola Clark Eisenbarth. He attended Corning schools and graduated from Corning High School in 1942. Following high school, he worked at Ft. Riley Army Base in Junction City and on his grandfather’s farm. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in June of 1943 at Ft. Leavenworth. He served with Company H in the 23rd Infantry as a heavy mortar gunner. He was in the Normandy Campaign where he was wounded and later lost his arm. After his release from the Army in January 1946, he returned to Corning to work with his father in construction and with his cousin Walter in the Corning Locker Plant.
On August 16, 1951, he married Lucille Stallbaumer at St. Patrick’s Church at Corning. They lived in Seneca. In 1950 he was elected as the Nemaha County Treasurer. Lawrence served 32 years as Treasureer before his retirement in July of 1993. He also had a business preparing income tax returns.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, the St. Joseph Society, the Earle W. Taylor Post #21 of the American Legion, the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, and a former member of the Kansas County Treasurers Association. Lawrence liked reading to improve his vocabulary. He liked animals and fed birds and squirrels in his backyard. “June,” as he was known, always had a good attitude about his disability. He and his wife, Lucille, liked to travel.
Survivors are his wife Lucille of the home; a son, Tom Eisenbath of Topeka; three daughters, Connie Shuler of Picayune, MS, Brenda Anderson of Topeka, and Roxann Holthaus of Seneca; four brothers, James Eisenbarth of Holton, Donald Eisenbarth of Hoyt, William Eisenbarth of Simi Valley, CA, and Harold “Mike” Eisenbarth of Liberty, MO; and six grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Eisenbarth and John “Pat” Eisenbarth.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Monday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for the Rehab Department at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital, Sts. Peter & Paul School, or Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, and sent in care of the family.
