Leona A. Kramer Stallbaumer, 95, of Marysville, Kansas, formerly of Kelly and Beattie, died Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Cambridge Place in Marysville.

Leona was born on August 6, 1912, west of Seneca to Henry and Elizabeth Kongs Kramer.

On September 27, 1933, she married Francis Peter Stallbaumer at St. Bede’s Church in Kelly. After marriage, they farmed southeast of Kelly. In November 1949 they moved into town and managed the Kelly Farmer’s Union Store until it closed in 1967. Leona was later employed at the Seneca Variety Store. In 1977 they moved to Beattie. After 51 years of marriage, her husband preceded her in death on December 31, 1984.

Leona was an excellent seamstress and a 4-H sewing leader. In her retirement she enjoyed needlework and quilting. She was an exceptional cook and baker which was greatly appreciated by family and friends. For a number of years she was a member of a Marshall County Extension Homemaker’s Unit. Leona was active in her parishes and was a member of St. Bede’s Altar Society and also taught CCD for a number of years. She was a member of St. Malachy’s Guild where she participated in the women’s quilting group. Later she was a member of St. Gregory Altar Society in Marysville. Leona was a Co-apostle of Benet Hill Monastery of Colorado Springs.

Survivors include her five children, Sister Francine Stallbaumer, O.S.B. of Colorado Springs, Dorothy (and husband Gene) Peschel of Marysville, David Stallbaumer of Denver, Louis (and wife Valerie) Stallbaumer of Tracy, CA and Jane (and husband Mick) Keating of Marysville; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Besides her husband Francis she was preceded in death by two sisters, Alfreda Niehues and Dorothy (who died in childhood); and five brothers, Lester (and infant), Raymond, Callistus, Albert, and Daniel Kramer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM Wednesday, March 5, at St. Gregory Church in Marysville. She will be buried next to her husband at St. Bede’s Cemetery in Kelly. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 PM Tuesday at at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, and at 7 PM Tuesday at St. Gregory Church in Marysville.

Memorials may be given in Leona’s memory for St. Bede’s Cemetery in Kelly or Benet Hill Monastery in Colorado Springs.
