Leona M. Bergman

Leona Marie Koelzer Bergman, 85, of Baileyville, died on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Life Care Center in Seneca.
She was born on October 1, 1929, on a dairy farm north of Baileyville, to Allie J. and Irene J. Hammes Koelzer. She grew up in the Baileyville community and attended Baileyville thru the 8th Grade, graduating on May 19, 1943. She cleaned homes and worked at Springer’s Variety Store in Seneca.
On August 19, 1954, Leona married Merlin H. Bergman at the Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. The couple lived three miles northeast of Vermillion for 33 years; before retiring and moving to Baileyville in 1987.
Leona was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville and the Altar Society; she enjoyed Bingo, playing cards, taking care of her lawn and flowers and being outdoors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merlin Bergman on May 9, 1999; a grandson, Andrew Kohake on June 3, 2007; two brothers, Richard Koelzer on May 6, 1947 and Elmer on July 1, 2011; and three sisters, Mildred Stallbaumer on August 31, 2006, Evelyn Heiman on December 22, 2001 and Marceil Haverkamp on March 18, 1998.
She is survived by her children Stephen (K’lyn) Bergman of Frankfort, Maurice Bergman of Vermillion and Roger (Brenda) Bergman of Vermillion; daughters, Connie (Morris) Campfield of Lincoln, Nebraska, Denise (Joe) Kohake of Centralia and Stacie (David) Korte of Kelly; brothers, Regis of Axtell and Gilbert of Baileyville; sisters, Eileen Koelzer of Baileyville, LaVerne Uphaus of Topeka and Audrey Mueting of Seneca;14 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Wednesday, July 15, at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Leona’s memory will be designated later, and sent in care of the family.
