Leonard B. Schmits, 82, of Seneca, KS, died early Monday morning, May 11, 2009, at Life Care Center in Seneca.
Leonard was born October 11, 1926 in Seneca, the son of Albert and Mary Burdick Schmits. He attended grade school at Sherman School District #89 southwest of Seneca and graduated from Baileyville High School. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army. Leonard was employed by the First National Bank of Centralia for 28 years, retiring in 1982, and served as a member of the Board of Directors from 1969 until 2001.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and the St. Joseph Society at the church in Seneca, and the Armstrong-Moyer Post #219 of the American Legion at Centralia.
He is survived by his sister, Rose Macke of Eugene, OR, and 14 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Leona Schmits and Mary Keegan; and brothers, Francis, Regis, Albert and Norbert Schmits.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM Wednesday, May 13, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Tuesday, May 12, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorial contributions may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul Church, and sent in care of the family.
