Marie M. Bergman

Marie M. Bergman of Corning, Kansas, died late Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Crestview Manor care home in Seneca.

Marie was born June 14, 1915 on a farm northeast of Baileyville the daughter of Frank and Katie Enneking Macke. She attended the Cottonwood Country School near Baileyville until 8th grade.

On April 12, 1939 she married Lester J. Bergman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict. They lived and farmed south of Seneca for several years and north of Baileyville before moving to Dawson, Nebraska from 1948 to 1949. In 1950 they moved to Seneca where Lester became a mechanic at John Deere. In 1959 they moved to Corning and she began the hot lunch program for the Corning school system. She also cooked for Crestview Manor. Marie also worked along her husband Lester in his woodworking shop.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Corning and the Altar Society at the church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a boardmember with the the Corning Library. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing cards and bingo. She designed and sewed many wedding dresses and bridesmaid gowns. She truly loved to travel and visited England among other places. During the winters she would go with her daughter Carol to live in Apache Junction, Arizona, and travel with family to Mexico, Canada, East and Northwest coastlines.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Clark; a grandson, Jay Clark; a great-granddaughter, Shelby Clark; a brother, Leo Macke; and a sister, Clara Beasley.

She is survived by her children, Richard Bergman of Spanaway, Washington, Carol Cox of Corning, Kansas and Larry Bergman of Lansing, Kansas; brother, Don Macke of Seneca; sister, Leona Kramer of Lincoln, Nebraska; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Thursday, February 7, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Friday, February 8, at St. Patrick’s Church in Corning. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A memorial beneficiary will be designated later.
