Marjorie E. Steinlage

Marjorie Elizabeth Steinlage, 87, of Kelly, died on Saturday, February 17, 2018 surrounded by her family at Crestview Nursing and Residential Living in Seneca.

Marjorie was born on May 2, 1930 in Baileyville to Anton and Margaret Broxterman Nolte.

She attended Head School House, north of Kelly, thru 8th Grade. After moving to Kelly, she cleaned house for the Nuns of St. Bede’s Parish. She continued to clean at St. Bede’s Church and Rectory for many years. For 18 years she worked a Home-Maker for Three Rivers, going over and above for her clients. She would spend extra time visiting and bringing them baked goods.

On August 23, 1949 she married Bernard Steinlage; they celebrated 37 years of marriage before his death on September 23, 1986. She lived all her married life on the family farm, where she raised her family; until three months ago when her health deteriorated and she moved to Crestview. She was a lifelong member of St. Bede’s Catholic Church and Altar Society.

She loved spending time with family, traveling, playing cards, embroidery, growing flowers and cooking. She was known for her fried chicken and homemade bread.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Roxanne on January 23, 1961; a son Glen, on December 24, 1972; two sisters, Francis McAsey and Bernice Wilhelm; and two brothers, Kenneth Nolte and Cletus Nolte.

She is survived by children, Gary (Karen) Steinlage of Topeka, Richard Steinlage of Kelly, Dennis (Connie) Steinlage of Silver Lake, Geralynn (Fred) Kohake of Centralia, Douglas Steinlage of Kelly and Gerimarie (Dale) Steinlage of Corning; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Theresa Korte of Anamosa, Iowa and Reva Korte of Holton.

Rosaries are at 2 and 7 P.M. Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly.

Memorials are for St. Bede’s Church and or St. Judes Children Hospital.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.
