Mary Lou Nolte

Seneca, Kansas

Mary Lou Nolte, 89, of Seneca lost her battle against cancer on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Crestview Nursing and Residential Living in Seneca.

Mary Lou was born on February 16, 1933, in Kelly, Kansas to Theodore and Lenora Hastert Gellhaus. She attended school at St. Bede’s School in Kelly and graduated in 1951.

On June 17, 1952, Mary Lou married Kenneth A. Nolte at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly, they couple made their home in Seneca. Mary Lou became a widow at the age of 51, after 31 years of marriage. It seems fitting that after 38 years apart that the couple was reunited on Valentine’s Day.

Mary Lou was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.  She never shied away from work; and taking care of those she loved. Jan and Paul Bergman hired Mary Lou at Crestview Manor in October 1984.  Mary Lou continued to work at Crestview as the Housekeeping Supervisor thru all four of Crestview’s owners, retiring in 2019.

Mary Lou loved to bake, garden, and raising flowers.  Mary Lou took great solace in prayer, and it was important part of her life. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and the Altar Society in Seneca.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth on May 22, 1984; her parents; and her sisters, Rita Henry and Luella Wessel.

Mary Lou is survived by her children, Catherine (Michael) Fuhrmann of Aubrey, Texas, Dianne (Jim) Shump of Seneca, Patricia Nolte of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, James Nolte of Seneca, Linda Nolte of Seneca, Steven (Lea Anne) Nolte of Seneca and Rosemary (Clem) Koch of Baileyville. Her brother Bernard Gellhaus of Olathe, Kansas,  her sisters, Delores Honeycutt of Independence, Missouri, Millie Smith of Paola and Helen Croan of Liberty, Missouri,15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.   Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials can be given in Mary Lou’s memory to Sts. Peter and Paul Church and/or the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital Building Fund, sent in care of the family.

A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.   Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    “Trini”, Dianne, and all of the family, my deepest condolences for your loss. Mary Lou was always a delight to work with. She cared about the residents at Crestview and she was truly a hard worker. May she Rest In Peace. And may each of you find peace and comfort in your memories of Mary Lou.

    Our heartfelt sympathy to the family in the loss of Mary Lou ! I had the pleasure of working with Mary Lou at Crestview Manor ! She was kind ,and loving to everyone,you never heard a harsh word from her. . She was a hard worker dedicated to her job and was a perfectionist at what ever she did . I always loved being a friend ,she definitely will be missed ! RIP sweet lady

    Loved Mary Lou!! Such a sweet and caring lady to all people. She loved baking and when my children made their First Communion I always served a brunch with Mary Lou’s cinnamon rolls!! Such a pleasant lady I will never forget. Peace and sympathy to all of her family. Betty and Mike Haug

    sorry t o hear of this great loss I know how much Leaanne loved her grandma as well as her children God has gained a wonderful angel many blessings and no tears as she is sending kisses from heaven and they will land on your pillow tonight God bless her soul
