Paul Richard Boeding

SENECA, KS

05/08/1947 - 02/06/2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Richard Boeding, age 77, of Seneca, Kansas, on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at his home.

Paul was born on May 8, 1947, in Seneca, Kansas, to Edward M. and Mary (Mohan) Boeding. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose legacy will live on through his family, career, and tireless contributions to his community.

Paul was united in marriage to Marilyn Elizabeth Heiman on August 9, 1969, at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville, Kansas by Father Arnold Boeding. Together, they built a life filled with love, dedication, and service. They were blessed with one son, Brian E. Boeding (Julie), and three cherished grandchildren: Andrew, Megan, and Lily.

A graduate of Sts. Peter & Paul High School in 1965, Paul went on to earn his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Washburn University in 1969 and his Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law in 1972. He later completed graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking in 1992.

Paul’s professional life was marked by distinguished leadership in banking, where he devoted many years of his career to serving both corporate and community interests. His early years included positions at United Missouri Bank, Plaza Bank and Trust, and First Union Trust Company. He went on to work at Centere Bank in Kansas City before returning to Seneca, where he became an integral part of Baileyville State Bank. From Vice President to President and CEO, Paul led the bank with unwavering dedication, retiring in 2016 after a remarkable 32 years of service.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Paul was deeply committed to community service. He was a long-time board member and officer of numerous organizations, including the Seneca Lions Club, the Seneca Chamber of Commerce, Charter Member of Northview Sertoma Club (North Kansas City, Missouri), Clay Platte YMCA of Gladstone, Missouri, and the Corporate Fiduciaries Association of Kansas City. He also served on the boards of the Nemaha Valley Health Care Foundation, the STEP Foundation, the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital Board of Trustees and the Community Bankers Association of Kansas, Kansas Bankers Association and the Independent Community Bankers of America. His leadership extended to the finance and education sectors, where he was active on the finance council of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Sts Peter & Paul School, and the Seneca Library.

In his retirement Paul enjoyed various pastimes. Paul enjoyed golfing and was passionate about genealogy.  Paul and Marilyn traveled often, spending time in Lake Tahoe and Cape Coral; and taking cruises to locations such as Australia, New Zealand and the Greek Isles. When not traveling, Paul also enjoyed cooking, grilling and experimenting with new recipes. He enjoyed watching history documentaries, reading western and various non-fiction books. Paul enjoyed spending hours attending his grandchildren’s academic and athletic activities.

Paul’s legacy is one of integrity, compassion, and dedication to his family and community. He was known for his quiet strength, his ability to connect with people, and his unwavering commitment to making the world around him a better place. Paul will be remembered as a man of principle, who led by example and touched the lives of many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Kathleen Dowd, Alice Rice and Al Boeding.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of 55 years; his son Brian and daughter-in-law Julie of Wichita; and his beloved grandchildren, Andrew, Megan and Lily all of Wichita. He is also survived by his brother, James (Mary Jane) Boeding of Seneca, Kansas.

Absolutely so sad to read this. I can remember playing “phone tag” in HS & called Boed, only for Paul to answer. The laughs we had after! Thinking of you all.

To all of Paul’s family, my heart aches for you. Paul and Marilyn always believed in the community and made financial decisions and heart felt decisions based on what they believed best for the community not just financial gain for themselves. He was a man of compassion. Thanks for your friendship along the way.

    Uncle Paul ,
Where to begin! It was alway a great pleasure getting to spend time and conversation with him. My favorite conversations were always about FAMILY!! Sitting around the dinner table one very special evening, Uncle Paul, Uncle Jim, Al, Annette, Marylin and the 3 brother telling about life growing up! Will cherish that memory for ever. Uncle Paul you have a very special place in my heart! Rest In Peace, Love you!! I am sure your heavenly family have pulled up a chair at the table. ❤️🙏🏻😇

Paul was a classmate of mine at Sts. Peter and Paul. I remember him being kind and genuine even as a young man. I only saw him occasionally when I came to visit family in Seneca, but I always felt that same warmth. I hope his family and all he touched will cherish how special he was..he was one of the good guys.

    Marilyn, Brian & Family,

So sorry to hear of Paul’s passing.

Like Wendy, I had a number of conversations with Paul (& Marilyn!) when I would call for Brian. I always noted how Brian’s parents both took an active interest in what and how I was doing.

My sincere condolences to all of you.

    Marilyn and family,
Our sincerest sympathies to each of you in your great loss. Words seem to fall short of describing how very much Paul meant to all and his immense impact on your lives and the lives around you, including the community there. He certainly has left a legacy of goodness and leadership that will continue to benefit many to come.
Although we only spent a few experiences/ adventures with you and Paul, we are very grateful to have known him. Such a great, fun man!
Many hugs, and prayers to you all! ❤️‍🩹

Simple pleasures are best–like those brief conversations with Paul at the bank, the church picnic, or wherever met. Usually those conversations took place with Paul and Marilyn and ended with the understanding “See ya next time.” Simple pleasures are the ones we miss. My condolence to Marilyn and family in the their loss. Peace be.

    Marilyn and family,
What a shock it was on Thursday this week coming out of mass in Wichita, when we (Jeanne and I) were told by Julie that Paul passed away. Our deepest sympathies to Marilyn and family. I had the privilege of being Paul’s college roommate for four years at Washburn U. May his soul rest in peace.
