Raymond F. Olberding

Raymond F. Olberding, 86, of Seneca, KS, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
He was born June 8, 1924, on a farm southwest of Seneca, the son of George F. and Elizabeth Wessel Olberding. Raymond attended Diamond School and helped neighboring farmers. He was a farmer and a stockman on the family farm where he lived and worked with his brother, Robert. For several years they cared for their aging parents.
On June 5, 1950 he married Mary Margaret Koch at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. His wife Mary preceded him in death on July 15, 1957.
He served on the Mitchell Township Board and was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca and the St. Joseph’s Society at the church.
He truly enjoyed farming, attending cattle auctions and playing cards.
Ray is survived by his son, Linus Olberding of Seneca; his daughter, Nancy Niehues of Goff; three sisters, Mildred Meyer, Edith Wassenberg, and Irene Heinen, all of Seneca; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife and parents he was preceded by his brother, Robert E. Olberding on December 22, 2004.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM Friday, October 8, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Thursday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given in Ray’s memory for Sts. Peter & Paul Nature Park or Sts. Peter & Paul Building Fund, and sent in care of the family.
