Richard M. Weber, 61, of Seneca, Kansas, died on Tuesday, March 20, 1973 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. He entered the hospital on March 11, and had emergency surgery.

He was born February 10, 1912, on a farm near Steiner, Nebraska to John and Barbara Stemper Weber. He grew up in the Steiner and Hebron area and graduated from 8th grade at the School of Hebron. He worked on the family family as he grew up, then was hired by a construction company in southeast Nebraska, where he worked until marriage.

On June 22, 1939, he married Elizabeth Kelly at St. Mary’s Church in Dawson, Nebraska. They lived in Hebron for a short time and later in Hanover, Kansas. They moved to Seneca in 1949, when Dick went to work for the gas station out at Tillievill just east of Seneca. They have lived in Seneca since then.

He also owned and operated Dick’s Bar on Main St. in Seneca for several years. He was currently employed by Nemaha Valley Motors, the Chrysler-Plymouth dealership up on US Highway 36 in Seneca.

He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca and the St. Joseph Society at the church.

Survivors include his wife Elizabeth of the home; two sons, James of Wichita and Richard of Seneca; four daughters, Barbara (William) Oppy of Lincoln, Joyce (Larry) Becker of Topeka, Patricia (Lawrence) Schmelzle of Kansas City, Missouri and Janet “Jan” Weber of Seneca; four sisters; Lillian (S.J.) Haugsness of Seneca, Mildred (A.L.) Calhoun of Hastings, Nebraska, Rita (John) Stoltenberg of Fremont, Nebraska and Dorothy (Walter) White of Hebron, Nebraska; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Lawrence, Nick and only a few days earlier Raymond Weber on March 18, 1973.

A rosary was prayed at 8:30 PM Wednesday, March 21, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at 12 PM Thursday, March 22, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dawson, Nebraska.

Pallbearers were Ed Eisenbarth, Raymond Kokenge, Joe Love, Wilfred Smith, Wishy Engelken and Leroy Deters.
