Robert Chester Wiegert, 71, of Seneca, formerly of Marysville, Kansas died at his home on January 11, 2016.
Robert was born on a farm near Marysville on January 11, 1945 to Chester and Cynthia Wassenberg Wiegert. He attended St. Gregory’s School through the 8th grade and attended Marysville High School. He served in the US Army in the mid 1965 to 1968 and was honorably discharged due to injuries he obtained in the service.
He married Mary Ann Thorsen in January 1970 in Denver, Colorado. They lived in the Denver area and moved to Marysville in 1975. He was employed by Firestone Tire Company, while in Marysville. His wife died in 1980; he returned to Colorado with his daughter to be closer to family. Robert returned to Marysville a few years later and when he retired in 2009; he moved to Seneca.
He was very artistic and enjoyed drawing doing a series of black and white sketches, he made elaborate houses out of Popsicle sticks and enjoyed fishing. He was a collector of wolf and Indian memorabilia.
He was a current member of American Fisherman and a past member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and the American Legion and VFW.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Cynthia Wiegert and Janet Killpack; and twin great-grandchildren, Zane and Blane Solberg.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Ray) McGhee of Centralia; sisters, Betty Orr of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mary Dhooge of Coal Valley, Illinois and Rita Landers of Fountain, Colorado; a step-brother, Frank Wiegert of Brighten, Colorado; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Lauer Funeral Home on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 2 P.M.
Burial will be in the Marysville Cemetery with full military honors.
