Robert E. "Bob" Hughes

Robert E. “Bob” Hughes, 75, of Seneca, Kansas, died Friday, September 24, 2004, shortly after arrival at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca due to injuries suffered in a car accident.
He was born December 14, 1928, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of James and Catherine Burns Hughes. He grew up there and graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1946. He worked for Kansas City Power and Light in the carpenter shop. Later he worked as a carpenter for various companies. He helped build homes in Kansas City and did other carpenter work until he retired in 1989.
On June 27, 1964, he married Mary Cunningham at Holy Cross Church in Kansas City, Missouri. They lived in Kansas City, Kansas until they moved to their present home south of Seneca in April of 1998.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. He was a former member of Christ the King Church in Kansas City and as a child, Blessed Sacrament Church.
He was a member of the Carpenter’s Union, Local #168 in Kansas City. Robert volunteered to visit prisoners at the federal prison in Leavenworth on their social nights. Bob had three dogs he loved and enjoyed.
Survivors are his wife Mary of Seneca; a daughter, Catherine Ginger and her husband David, and a granddaughter, Brandi Ginger, all of Kansas City, Kansas; four sisters, Kathleen Stubbers of Kansas City, Missouri, Helen “Bitsy” McMahon of Overland Park, Kansas, Liz McNally of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Patty Cole of New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Hughes, and a sister, Jane Killeen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM Monday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary will be prayed at 2 PM Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 PM Sunday, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
