Rose M. Glissman

Rose M. Glissman, 87, of Seneca, KS, died Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
She was born on April 8, 1921, on a farm southeast of Kelly, KS, the daughter of Joseph and Emma Boeckman Hermesch. She grew up in the Kelly community and attended St. Bede’s School in Kelly.
On April 16, 1941, she married Bernard A. “Ben” Glissman at St. Bede’s Church in Kelly. They lived and farmed northwest of Wetmore, KS, for two years before moving to a farm southwest of Kelly. The couple moved to Seneca in 1984; and celebrated their 60th anniversary before Ben’s death on December 1, 2001.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and the St. Ann’s Altar Society in Seneca. She worked 17 years for the school lunch program at Nemaha Valley Schools. She loved her grandchildren and family. She enjoyed cards, her garden and flowers. She had a special love for quilting for her grandchildren and for the church.
Survivors are two sons, Richard and Ronald Glissman, both of Centralia, KS; six daughters, Jo Ann Meyer of Soldier, KS, Mary Ellen Russell of Sabetha, KS, Shirley Hammes and Myra Haverkamp both of Seneca, KS, Connie Haverkamp of Silver Lake, KS, and Joyce Grose of Bern, KS; a brother, Henry Hermesch of Seneca; two sisters, Eleanor Schultejans and Alfreda Kramer, both of Corning; 25 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Adolph, Leo, and Fredolin Hermesch; and two sisters, Mary Hermesch and Florence Bergman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Tuesday, October 21, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in St. Bede’s Cemetery in Kelly. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Monday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for Nemaha Valley Community Hospital or St. Bede’s Cemetery, and sent in care of the family.
