Rosemary Victorina Luebbe, 90, of Seneca died on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Life Care Center of Seneca
Rosemary was born on April 20, 1925 in Sabetha, to Paul and Rosemary Koehler Wempe. The day after she was born, her mother passed away. For the first two years of her life she lived with her Uncle Conrad and Aunt Elizabeth Wempe in St. Mary’s. Her father remarried, he married Augusta Voet and Rosemary went to live with them in Seneca. Rosemary attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and graduated in May of 1943. As a young woman, she went to work for the 1st National Bank of Seneca and later for J.C. Penny’s Store in Seneca, from which she retired.
On November 6, 1945 Rosemary married Norman L. Luebbe at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. The couple celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Rosemary was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca and St. Ann’s Altar Society. Rosemary enjoyed sewing, flowers, canning and cooking; she loved to read and believed in always being ready to help her children and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Norman of the home; sons, Jerry ( Margaret) Luebbe of Centralia, Randy (Shelly) Luebbe of Topeka; her daughters, Carol (Jim) Kohake of Seneca, Jolene (Roger) Holthaus of Seneca and Lori (Gary) Huerter of Seneca; her sisters Elsie Steck of Muskegon, WI, Sally Smith of St. Joseph, MO, Mary Jane (Regis) Rochel of Axtell, Claire Louise (Jack) Lackey of Beloit and Ruth Ann Wanless of White Bear Lake, MN; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Luebbe on July 15, 1951; her brothers, Arthur Wempe on January 11, 2000, Mark Wempe on May 25, 2011, Gerald Wempe on January 21, 2015, Paul Richard Wempe on July 29, 2013; and sisters, Marcella Lierz on March 23, 2000, Cleta Harris on February 23, 1996, and Betty Haug on March 22, 2011.
A rosary was prayed on Sunday, March 27th at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Fr. Arul Carasala on March 28, 2016 at Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Seneca. Placing of the Pall was done by Norman and her children. The commentator was Paula Rottinghaus and the communion distributor was Jerry Rottinghaus.
Gift bearers were her granddaughters, Heather Sullivan, Haley Holthaus, Hannah Holthaus, Danielle Reinecke, Devon Rothers, Sheilli Wimberly, Stacy Glatczak, Aubree Luebbe and Madison Luebbe. The music was provided by Cyril Steinlage and Terry Nordhus.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, David Kohake, Paul Kohake, Michael Kohake, Shane Luebbe, Jordon Rethman, Chad Grauer and Cory Holthaus.
Memorials may be given in Rosemary’s memory Sts. Peter and Paul School, sent in care of the family.
