Shirley J. Kirk, 83, of Seneca, died on May 15, 2015 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. Shirley was born December 23, 1931, in Peever, South Dakota, to Cleaves and Antoina Kotsea Kirk. In 1935, her mother died and the entire family, including her grandparents Charles and Bertha Talkington Kirk, moved to the Solider-Bancroft area. In 1939, they moved to Seneca where Shirley graduated from Seneca Public High in 1949. Shirley worked for Carmen Variety Store in Seneca for two years. In 1951, Shirley and her sister Donna moved to Santa Monica, California. Shirley was employed by North America Aviation, which later was known as Rockwell International. She was a secretary in the accounting department and the manger of the programming department. Shirley retired from there in 1987 after 36 years of service; and moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina. In 2008 Shirley moved back to Seneca and lived in her family home. She later moved to Meridian to be closer to her friend, Mark Heideman. Her hobbies were antiquing, buy and selling furniture and glassware, going to the casino, and listening to country music. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Donna Kirk. She also loved her dog Daisy, a Pomeranian breed, who died a couple of weeks ago. Graveside services were on Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Baileyville City Cemetery, just west of Baileyville, Kansas.
