Stephen A. Jones, 68, of Seneca, Kansas, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

Stephen Anthony Jones was born on September 21, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Charles F. and Dora King Jones. He attended high school in Blue Rapids, Vermillion, and graduated from Frankfort High School in the class of 1962. He graduated from Highland Community College in 1964 and then moved to Brighton, Colorado where he lived for several years. He served six years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

In 1975 Steve returned to Kansas where he began a career in law enforcement working for the City of Seneca for 34 years. He served as Chief of Police for 26 years during that time. He loved the service to the community and helping people when they needed it. The photo at top left shows Steve in police uniform for the City of Seneca.

On April 16, 1980, he married Leann Hensley Burenheide in Marysville, Kansas.

Steve is survived by Leann, his wife of 32 years; sons Chad of Seneca, Tim (Jennifer) of Brighton, Colorado, and Andy (Ginny); adopted sons Mike, Mark, Donald, Carl and Scott; daughter Jeanette Ruettinger; grandchildren Peter, Moriah and Sara Jones; his sister Sandra Keller of Marysville; and his mother Dora Jones of Marysville.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles Jones and a grandson Noah Jones.

Steve was a member of the United Methodist Church of Seneca, Seneca American Legion Earl W. Taylor Post #21, and the American Motorcycle Association.

Steve had a passion for playing the piano, riding his motorcycle and reading mystery books.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Monday, January 28, at the United Methodist Church in Seneca, with a visitation at the church for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be given to COINS for a Cause, American Cancer Society, or Seneca EMT Association, and sent in care of the family.
