Vera "Darlene" McAuliffe

Vera “Darlene” McAuliffe, 77, of Sabetha, formerly of Seneca, died August 23, 2013 at the Sabetha Hospital in Sabetha.

She was born on September 24, 1935, in Soldier, Kansas, the oldest child of nine, to Frederick H. and Lorena S. Rawlings. As a young girl, she moved with her family to a farm southwest of Havensville. She attended school in Onaga and graduated with the class of 1953.

She married Damion V. “Jiggs” McAuliffe in Havensville. After they were married, they moved to Seneca where Jiggs found employment. Darlene was a devoted housewife, mother to her seven kids, and daughter to her aging parents next door whom she assisted. She loved to crochet, to sew her young children’s clothes, and to sing karaoke.

Currently she was a member of the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall in Auburn, NE. Her ministry was to send out letters to those who lost a loved one, she had send out some just days before her own death.

She was preceeded in death by her husband “Jiggs” March,1985; sons, Theodore on February 26, 1979 and Garry on April 26, 1981; a daughter, Darlene on January 17, 2007; a grandson, Patrick Frad on February 12, 2002; and a sister, Louise Kaster on August 30, 2010.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn McAuliffe of Humboldt, Nebraska, Vernon McAuliffe of Sabetha, Damion “Frank” McAuliffe of Seneca and Frances Nichols of Sabetha; brothers, Fred Shockey of Seneca, Bill Shockey of Soldier, Lyle Shockey of Seneca, Terry Shockey of Little Rock, Arkansas, Garry Shockey of Shawnee, Kansas; sisters, Freda Galer of Holton and Maxine Clemmer of Slater, Missouri; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be Sunday, August 25th from 6 to 8 PM at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Funeral Services will be Monday at 10 AM at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be made to Lauer’s Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
