Vern A. Wiers

Vern Allan Wiers, 50, of Bern, KS, lost his valiant battle against cancer on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
Vern was born on May 28, 1960 to Vernon Orville and Shirley Ann Schnepp Wiers at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital in Pawnee City, NE. He attended school there and graduated in from Pawnee City High School in 1978.
On October 10, 1981, he married Kay Vondemkamp at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly, KS. The couple made their home on a farm near Bern, where they celebrated nearly 30 years of marriage and raised their three sons. Vern enjoyed farming, putting up hay and having a few cattle. Vern was employed by Ralson Trucking from 1981 to 1989. In 1990, he started his own business, Wiers Trucking. He enjoyed his profession in every aspect, from the routine maintenance of this truck to the delivery of his loads. His sons will now take over the business.
Vern was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca and the Kansas Motor Carriers Association.
He was preceded in death by his father on July 29, 1996.
He is survived by his wife Kay of the home; three sons, Matthew of Bern, Jason of Bern and Nicholas of the home; his mother, Shirley Wiers of Du Bois, NE; two sisters, Julie Luedders of Burchard, NE and Linda Scott of Greenwood, NE; a brother, John Wiers of Pawnee City, NE; and seven grandchildren.
A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Monday, March 28, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 AM Tuesday, March 29, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the Du Bois Cemetery.
