Seneca, KS

10/16/1936 - 06/09/2017

Viola E. Megill, age 80, of Seneca, Kansas, went to be with her Heavenly Father on June 9, 2017, while living at Life Care Center of Seneca after a courageous battle with sinus cancer.

Viola Esther Grass was born on October 16, 1936 to Gail Grass and Edna (Wilkerson) Grass at Hoisington, Kansas. As a young child she lost both parents to death. She went to live with her Grandma and Grandpa Wilkerson in Russell, KS. Her Aunt Alma Grass was also a very positive influence in her life. Vi graduated from Russell High School in 1954. She attended Otterbein College in Indianapolis, Indiana for one year. She transferred to Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa where she graduated in 1958 with a degree in Religious Education and Psychology.

On June 22, 1958 she married Keith Megill at Otterbein Evangelical United Brethren Church in Russell, Kansas. They lived in Topeka, Kansas and San Jose, California before moving to Espanola, New Mexico where they raised their three children, Denee, Susie and Rick.

Vi worked as a Church Administrator for Santa Cruz United Methodist Church in Espanola. Later she was the bookkeeper and co-owner of KEVR Radio Station with her husband, Keith. She also volunteered as a Pink Lady at Espanola Valley Hospital. After 32 years in New Mexico, Vi and Keith moved to Seneca, Kansas. There she continued to be very involved in the United Methodist Church and especially the United Methodist Women, which was her lifelong passion. Vi volunteered at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS for 11 years. She also volunteered by playing piano and visiting with patients at the Life Care Center and Crestview Manor Nursing Home, both in Seneca. Vi loved to sing and was in the Church Choir in every church she attended as well as singing in community choirs for special occasions. She supported her husband, Keith, in all his travels to ball games and helped him by running the video camera. They loved to travel, especially to attend ball games, concerts, dance recitals and graduations of their grandchildren. She was passionate about mission work and caring for the less fortunate. She was also passionate about caring for the environment by recycling everything she could possibly recycle.

Vi is survived by her husband of Seneca, Kansas; daughters Denee and Gene Delauder of San Manuel, Arizona; Susie and Rev. Dean Trapp of Huron, South Dakota; and son, Rick Megill of Mission Viejo, California; grandchildren Joshua Delauder, Sarah Delauder, Kimberly Iverson, Alyssa Trapp, Erika Trapp, Kyle Megill, Zachary Megill and Toria Megill; sister-in-law Esther Megill of Asheville, NC and brother-in-law Ken Megill of Washington, DC.
